Firefox High CPU usage caused by AVG Toolbar

I have seen some reports of Firefox causing high CPU usage or freezing problems. It has been found out AVG has been causing this for a lot of users.

This is a notice I'm making advising people of the problems caused by AVG and to see if disabling the AVG Security Toolbar & AVG Safe Search add-ons will help people resolve high CPU & freezing problems.


The versions affected by this: AVG Safe Search 9.0.0.783 AVG Security Toolbar 4.002.023.004 Instructions on how to disable the add-ons:

•Go to Tools > Add-ons > Extensions
•Click on AVG Security Toolbar
•Then click the Disable button
•Repeat the steps above for AVG Safe Search

Restart Firefox so the add-ons will be disabled.

AVG has been notified of the problem and has confirmed that it has been able to reproduce the problem. AVG is working on a update to fix this. I do not know when their update will be ready.
